Excellent reply....I have had wonderful results with consistent use of probiotics. Also healed my eczema. I have heard that some of the toxins produced by unfriendly bacteria can actually change the function of our digestion, bowel, and nutrient absorption. Regarding the statement in your article about complicated chemical information contained in our food.....brilliant! Love your work, enjoyed your book very much!

Hi Becky
Probiotic-rich foods are always beneficial to the intestinal tract because they help it's immune system function better, but should be introduced slowly and then consumed consistently. (Yoghurt, lacto fermented sauerkraut or pickles - Bubbies is a brand commonly available in health-food stores. Another brand you can order online is www.biolacto.com) Reducing alcohol, caffeine, and so on are also important with IBS as they can interfere with the neurologic function of the GI tract.

Irritable bowel is usually a lifelong conditions, with symptoms beginning in childhood and waxing and waning throughout adult life. There is no test for it and it is one of the many diseases that are "diagnoses of exclusion." That is, a physician must seriously consider other conditions, and may need to order a variety of tests to exclude them as possibilities. If your friend has had a sudden and recent onset, I would be suspicious of settling on this diagnosis.

Hope this helps -

my friend has IBS, she has had recent episodes of uncontrollable
diaherra, and I was wondering, if there are certain, foods she could
eat, that would help with her problem, or at least slow it down.

she is of course under a physican's care, but he precribes medication, and even that doesn't help much.

If there is something she could eat to help her out please reply to this email.
